The telecom business is a lot about regulation, and updating DaoPay to stay current with different laws in the more than 200 countries we cover is one of the things we do regularly, so you don’t have to
.
Starting October 1st, there’s going to be a new policy for premium rate numbers in Italy that requires consumers with landline phones to activate their phone and opt-in to be able to use premium phone services such as DaoPay. (There will also be some changes in the numbering scheme which are all being handled by our engineers and won’t affect you in any way.)
What this means for Consumers
Starting October 1st, consumers will have to call their operator to activate premium rate numbers on their landline phone. Once they’ve activated their phone, they’re free to use premium services just like before.
What this means for Merchants
If you’re using our easyPIN or easyMail products, we’ve already taken care of everyhing for you and your service will just continue to operate as usual.
If you’re using the DirectAPI to integrate phone payments into your product, there are some minor changes to be done in the user interface that we highly recommend you to implement in order to maintain your revenue stream from Italy.
The actual changes are easy to implement: all you need to do is add instructions for customers who choose to pay from Italy.
Since this affects Italian users, it makes sense to provide this information in Italian:
- Prenda la tua bolletta della Telecom
- Chiama il 187 e segui le Istruzioni per avere il PIN necessario all’attivazione dei Codici Speciali 899 annotandoti tale PIN
- Chiama il 48187
- Inserisci il Codice PIN avuto precedentemente e segio le Istruzioni vocali per abilitare i Servizi che ti interessano
Here’s the English translation should you want to offer that as well:
- Be sure you have your TELECOM ITALIA telephone bill ready.
- Call 187 and follow the instructions. Be sure to write down the PIN code provided.
- Call 48187.
- Follow the instructions given, type in the PIN code which was previously provided to you and activate the “Opt-in” service desired.
That’s it! Please remember to display this information only to Italian customers. The payment process itself is not affected in any way, so there’s only little code to be changed on your side.
