Under 21 in the USA? Sorry, no credit card for you!

January 27, 2010

Starting this February, a new US law bans credit cards for those under 21 unless they have enough income or get someone to co-sign.
The so called “Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009″ furthermore restricts credit card issuers from raising interest rates without warning, penalizing customers who pay on time, and levying excessive fees.

Pay with SMS text messaging in Switzerland

January 22, 2010

DaoPay now offers text/SMS-based mobile payments for Switzerland, too!

Since it is always good to know the local market and business opportunities, we have prepared some information on the Swiss telecommunication market:

The statistics speak for themselves: 5 million land lines and 8 million mobile phones in a country with 7.7 million inhabitants – that is Switzerland from the perspective of a telecommunication provider. Due to the liberalization in 1998, there are now several operators (GTN, Sunrise, Orange, or Econophone) besides the still dominating Swisscom, the former monopolist Telecom PTT.

The following Swiss peculiarity may be noteworthy:
Since 2003 you always have to dial the area code, even if you are in the same area! In fact, the code (e.g., 055) blends with the telephone number (e.g., 234 56 78) to a new number (055 234 56 78), and the so-called “area code” actually is no longer an area code. Telephone numbers should therefore be listed without the usual delimiters, e.g. (), /, -, and so forth.
